Creating anchors – the therapist may create mental or physical anchors to be used by the client when they feel the urge to smoke or vape.

Post-hypnotics suggestions – suggestions are provided by the therapist that take effect after the session, such as feeling a sense of pride or empowerment each time the client does not smoke or vape. Suggestions are also used to reinforce the client’s long-term commitment to remaining smoke/vape free.

Awakening from the hypnosis – the client is gently brought out of hypnosis by the therapist and a brief discussion then takes place to reinforce progress and set progress expectations.

Follow up and self-hypnosis – additional sessions may be scheduled to address new challenges or reinforce progress to strengthen the client’s resolve. They may also be taught self-hypnosis, empowering them to manage cravings and stress independently.
